How to Clean the ESD Mat:

  1. Unplug and clear the area

    • Remove any devices, tools, or components from the mat.

    • Disconnect the mat from the ground if necessary.

  2. Dust or vacuum the surface

    • Use a soft brush or vacuum with an ESD-safe attachment to remove loose particles and debris.

  3. Apply ESD-safe cleaner

    • Spray the cleaner directly onto the mat, or dampen the cloth with it.

    • Avoid harsh chemicals like alcohol, bleach, or ammonia — they can damage the mat’s properties.

  4. Wipe the surface

    • Use a soft, lint-free cloth or sponge to gently wipe the surface.

    • Don’t scrub aggressively, especially on dual-layer mats.

  5. Rinse (if needed)

    • If the cleaner requires rinsing, wipe again using a cloth dampened with deionized or distilled water.

  6. Dry the mat

    • Use a dry, clean cloth to remove excess moisture.

    • Let the mat air dry completely before reconnecting grounding wires or placing components on it.

Avoid:

  • Using household cleaners or solvents.

  • Soaking the mat or submerging it in water.

  • Using rough scrubbers or abrasive materials.

How Often Should You Clean It?

  • Light use: Once a week.

  • Heavy use or sensitive environments (e.g., cleanrooms): Daily or after each shift.
