Fan Coil Unit (FCU) – Description

A Fan Coil Unit (FCU) is a simple and versatile device used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to control the temperature of individual rooms or zones. It consists of a fan, a coil (for heating or cooling), and a housing. The FCU uses either chilled water or hot water supplied by a central plant, or a refrigerant, to condition the air. The fan then circulates the air across the coil and into the space, providing thermal comfort.

FCUs are commonly found in hotels, offices, hospitals, residential buildings, and commercial complexes, where localized temperature control is desired.

Types of Fan Coil Units

1. Two-Pipe System

   • One supply and one return pipe; used for either heating or cooling at a given time.

2. Four-Pipe System

   • Two supply and two return pipes; allows simultaneous heating and cooling in different zones.
